Earrings at work: Less is more
What's your take on wearing glittery, chandelier-style
earrings at the office?
Dangly earrings are sexy, and sexy doesn't go well with workplace.
Safety is an issue, too. If you drop a pen at a meeting,
when pick it up you may find your metal mesh entangled in
your colleague's hose. You could find your head attached to
her leg.
Plus there's the pain. Ever try to talk on the phone with
a lot of resin clipped to your ear?
Not everyone agrees, however. Fashion-savvy management consultant
Suzanne Maynard says yes, yes yes to dangling earrings in
the office.
"But with caveats," says Maynard, whose clients
include some of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky's
largest corporations. "They should not be too long or
too ornate. The earrings I am wearing now are about an inch
long with a relatively simple design.
"I don't think your earrings should look like they just
came off somebody's dining room ceiling. As with all accessories,
less is more."
Maynard allows that noise from long earrings can be a problem
and recommends if you are going to go for the dangly, go for
the silent.
I still say stick to simple posts, small gold hoops or your
mother's clip-ons for 9-to-5. Leave the fun jewels for Thursday
nights at Boca.
